NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES RESEARCH GROUP

tornar

Aims

The activity of the group is centered on the study of the molecular mechanisms of neuron cell death in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson's disease. Using experimental animal models, cell culture and post-mortem human brain samples, the main objective of the group is to develop new therapeutic strategies to halt or prevent neuron cell death in this group of incurable diseases.

“Programmed Cell Death and Parkinson´s disease ”
Coordinator: Miquel Vila
Study the molecular mechanisms that regulate the process of programmed cell death in dopaminergic neurons using an animal model of Parkinson´s disease. Our goal is to identify molecular targets and design new molecular tools which may allow us, acting on this process. to prevent or delay the neurodegeneration that occurs in Parkinson's disease.

“Role of mitochondrial dysfunction in Parkinson's disease neurodegeneration”
Coordinator: Miquel Vila
To characterize the role and the molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction occurring in Parkinson’s disease’s.
