GENE EXPRESSION AND CANCER RESEARCH GROUP

tornar

Aims

Our main objective is to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in tumour genesis and progression. Specifically, our research is focused in the study of glioma. Glioma is the most common primary tumour of the brain and in its most aggressive form, glioblastoma multiforme, has a median survival of less than one year. Very little is known about the molecular mechanisms that govern glioma and further work is required in order to design successful therapeutic protocols.

Research Areas

“Role of TGF-beta in neuroprogenitor cell biology ”.

Coordinator: Joan Seoane Suárez.
Study of the role of TGF-beta in proliferation, differentiation and self-renewal of neuroprogenitor cells obtained from embryonic and adult mice.

“Function and regulation of the transcription factor FoxG1 ”.
Coordinator:: Joan Seoane Suárez.
FoxG1 is the human homolog of the viral oncogen Qin and it is expressed in glioma. We will study the regulation of the expression and activity of FoxG1 and the role of FoxG1 in the genesis and progression of glioma.

“Study of the role of TGF-beta in glioma progression ”.
Coordinator: Joan Seoane Suárez.
Study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the anti- and pro-tumorigenic duality of TGF-beta as well as the evaluation of the efficiency and specificity of an inhibitor of the TGF-beta receptor as an anti-tumoral agent.
