GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT RELATED PATHOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP

tornar

Aims

Development of a program of basic and clinical research in growth, bone mass, sexual differentiation disorders and type I diabetes. Analysis genotype-fenotype for GH1, GHR and VDR genes in healthy individuals and in patients suffering from growth failures. VDR gene polymorphisms in type I diabetes. AR, SRD5A2 and HSD17B3 gene mutations in male pseudohermaphroditism Regulation of the expression of genes involved in chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation at the growth plate.

Research Areas

“Molecular analysis of the GH1, GH1 receptor and vitamin D receptor genes in patients with growth retardation”
Principal investigator: Antonio Carrascosa Lezcano.
Mutational analysis of the GH1 gene. Relationship between the polymorphisms at the GH receptor gene and the cellular response to the hormone. patocreci_fig.jpg

“Sexual differentiation disorders. Molecular analysis of the androgen receptor gene and the 5-alpha and 17-ceto reductase activities”
Principal investigator: Laura Audí Parera.
Our group is the Spanish leader group in the diagnosis pseudohermaphroditisme in males. These patients have to be investigated for gene mutations in the androgen receptor (AR), the type 2 5-alfa- reductase (SRD5A2) or the type 3 17-ceto-reductase (HSD17 B3).

“Hormonal regulation of chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation at the growth plate. Analysis in vitro using cell cultures”
Principal investigator: Laura Audí Parera and Antonio Carrascosa Lezcano.
Regulation of the proliferation and gene expression of the IGF-I, IGF-II, IGFBP3, IGFR1,GHR, STAT5b, SOX9, COL2A1, AGGRECAN and COMP in chondral cells by glucocorticoids, vitamin D, IGF-I and GH.
